Your Alumni Web Site was massively updated effective September 11, 2000, and is built on the latest web technology available. Additional functionality will continue to be added as the technology for web sites advances. For example, we are now using the Java language extensively, The Mall uses rather sophisticated Perl scripts to operate, and you will find documents published on-line in the public domain format (pdf) which is rapidly evolving into the de facto standard for on-line electronic publishing. "Cookies" are now used to provide a more personalized visit.

BROWSERS

Because of the use of the latest technology, it is essential that you use one of the most advanced browsers available or you will be unable to access most of the features built into your web site. Fortunately, both Netscape and Microsoft provide their most advanced browsers FREE. You simply download the browser over the Internet.

Although either Netscape v4.73 (with some exceptions) and Internet Explorer versions 4.0 or higher should work here, the site was developed and tested using Internet Explorer 5.01. Many of the features included in your site work ONLY with IE5; such as the news and stock tickers at the top of the home page. If you are using NetScape, you simply won't see these buttons. We highly recommend that you upgrade to Internet Explorer 5.x!

We have provided DIRECT LINKS to both Netscape and Microsoft. To download either browser, click the appropriate icon below and following the instructions as they appear from Netscape and Microsoft. You will not leave our site as new windows will open.

ON-LINE DOCUMENTS

You will find documents in two formats on this web site, "zip" and "pdf." Some documents are provided only in the "zip" format, some are provided only in the "pdf" format, and some are provided in both formats.

Zip files are for downloading; i.e., you can transfer a copy of the document to your hard disk, "unzip" it, and then read and print it using Microsoft Word 95. However, you will need an "unzip" program to decompress the file before you can read it. If you do not have a decompression program, you can download a trial version of Winzip 8.0 here. You have a 30-day trial on this software. If you use it for more than 30 days, you must purchase and register Winzip. Follow the directions in Winzip in the "Help" box.
